Sir Gabriella "Briella" Roseite
Never call her "Gabby"
Gabriella Roseite was born of a knight and a lesser noblewoman. Her parents owned an estate and a small piece of land not far from the capital. Growing up, she adored her father, preferring to spend time with him over her mother, who tried to force to to “be a lady”. But when she was still young, her father died in battle. Briella’s mother fell into depression, and eventually disappeared one day from the estate. Last Briella heard about her, she had married a poor noble in another country and had another daughter by him. Briella in the meantime was taken in by her uncle (her father’s brother), who was also a knight. Like Briella’s father, he too supported her wish to be a knight, and even took her as his page to help her begin her journey. When she was a teenager her uncle was killed by a dragon who had gone mad. She wished to avenge him but was forbidden to do so. Instead she continued her path to knighthood. By the time she was knighted, a war-mongering king had taken over (a cousin of the previous king who had been killed by the same dragon that killed her uncle).
After many years of serving faithfully, she finally came to terms with what she was doing, and the slaughter and meaningless warfare she was taking part in. Upon turning down orders, she was branded a traitor and thrown in prison to be executed, but a fellow knight (indeed one who she had helped to knighthood, Deonte), helped her escape. Not long after escaping, she has a dream and is marked by the Elder Dragon with a mark that she doesn’t understand. Still running from the king’s men, she flees to a northern, snowy continent. It is there she is later found by an old friend and claims he needs her help.
